phone rooted says unlocked

have rooted my samsung s3 gt-i9300 now i take it that would make it unlocked for any network but when i change sim card from virign to 02 it doesnt automatically search or when i find the 02 network it just keeps saying unable to connect

any help from you pros would be a god send
