ROM Review - FoxHound 2.4

Hey there fellow XDA user,

So, recently FoxHound released a new ROM version '2.4', and I have been told by many users that FoxHound ROM's are the way forward in the ROM world, so this automatically tempted me to install it onto my rooted international i9300 which was running stock ROM but was rooted.

Now let's get to the review.... :victory:

Installation process:

Installing the ROM was easy but I did encounter a problem when in the final process of installing. The problem was, I chose to install 'CrossBreeder' I believe it was called, and so I ticked the box to ensure that it will install with the ROM, once I had optimized the ROM to my needs I then continued with the installation, everything went well apart from when it was trying to install 'CrossBreeder', the installation process did not freeze but it just did not continue past the 70% mark, so I left the phone to do it thing for 20 minutes, I come back to the device and it stuck at the same point, at this point I pulled the battery and started the installation process again but without installing CrossBreeder.

Usability:

I found this ROM to be very useful as it gives me, the user, many decisions to make when using my phone, such as the performance tool, which allows me to set the clock speed at a speed that I am comfortable with, although the current 1.4Ghz did me just fine. Not only did the ROM allow the control of the speed, the ROM has an integrated OTA installation system, which allows the user to directly download mods from a server straight to the phone, ready to be installed via CWM recovery.

Battery life:

The battery life of my device has much improved in the time it can last now, coming from a user that used to be on the stock ROM, the battery life using this ROM is a major step up from the the stock one. However, it does depend on the apps installed on the device, when I first installed the ROM and had the most basic apps that allow me to navigate my phone, battery life was terrific, but now I have re-downloaded and installed the apps from which I used to use on the stock ROM, and that has affected my battery life slightly, by decreasing quicker than what I was used to when I first installed the ROM, and I do make sure I close all apps properly to ensure no background apps are running and I do clear the RAM once in a while to ensure the same thing. But I do believe that the battery life is amazing!

Strengths:
  • Speed of the ROM
  • Battery life
  • Functionality
  • Reliability

Weaknesses:
  • Transparent Status Bar (only my opinion), I do not like te transparecy, this can be changed within the settings, but I am basing this weakness off the start of the ROM
  • Pre-installed third-party apps, e.g Apollo
  • The lack of themes provided within the OTA system, currently 3 themes to choose from

Would you recommend this ROM to others?

YES, it is a major step up from the stock ROM, and over time, the ROM will only get better with future updates.

Where can I download this ROM?

Check out FoxHound XDA thread, everything you need to know about the ROM is in the thread, so is the download link.

Hey guys, that was my first review of a ROM, more to come, but it may take some time as I am currently installing ROM's on my daily device, so if you do like my review and believe it was helpful to you, I will strongly consider purchasing a second device just for flashing ROM's!

Please leave suggestions on aspects of the review I can improve for future reviews. Oh and leave suggestions on the next ROM I should flash onto my device.
